Plus Size Modeling.
This was an area that I was always interested in pursuing, but never attempted to follow through. It is a competitive industry BUT I’ve always has beef with the industry. Some like Tinkas Closet Monif C AND Ashley Stewart have women who fall between the 14-20 bracket. Whereas places like Asos Dorothy Perkins and Carmakoma have models who are a size 8-12.
This may have to do with the Plus Size Industries in the UK but I don’t appreciate it too much. Not because I have an angst against women who are smaller but I am a size 18 and it’s hard for me to make an accurate assessment on a dress if I have a few extra rolls and curves compared to the model. If it looks great on model that is size 8-12…I can’t be completely sure if it’s going to be accurate on a person who is 5 or 6 sizes bigger.
LE SIGH…but luckily I’ve gone through so much trial and error that I could simple look at something and know whether it will look good on certain body types. What I typically do is look at it on the model…analyze her shape and if my body is somewhat similar I start to visually pad the model in the places that need filling and I get an idea of how accurate it make look.
According to this Source here are some general tips to becoming a plus size model. Different agencies have different specifications.
Plus Size Modeling Requirements
While you may need to fit into a certain size to become a plus model, that’s not all. Plus models are generally 5’8” to 6’ in height, and wear a size 10 and up.
Other guidelines include:
- A proportional figure
- Shapely legs
Note: Fit models may be required in larger sizes or shorter heights than standard plus-size modeling, and it’s worth inquiring when you call agencies.
If you don’t fit the criteria don’t give up. Print modeling is different than Runway modeling, therefore you may luck out :)

Society is much too obsessed with size and labels, and I choose to set an example, by not openly discussing mine. I’ve been several different sizes in my life, and they’ve all been what is considered statistically average. The most important thing for curvy girls of all sizes to remember, is dressing your body according to your shape will always help you look your best.
